The International Conference "Illegal wildlife trade in Latin America and the Caribbean: impacts on local communities and opportunities for legal and sustainable use" will be held on September 30 and October 1, 2019, in the Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina.

There will be 30 international presentations by experts from indigenous, peasant and local communities, as well as from scientific experts with the aim of allowing community voices to raise awareness about the impacts of illegal wildlife trade in local communities that conduct wildlife management and that they are focused on sustainable use for subsistence or legal wildlife trade. The event also seeks to develop a strategy for Latin America and the Caribbean on sustainable use and livelihoods. Finally, on October 2 a workshop will be held to agree on a set of priority recommendations "Voices of the Communities" for the "First High Level Conference of the Americas on Illegal Wildlife Trade" for Plenary 6 and a parallel Event at that conference, to be held from October 3 to 4, 2019.
